Nukoduke Chapter 97 & 98 Review

Summary taken from Mangago:

A heartwarming story about the daily lives of a freeter named Yuuya and his two part cat, part human pets.

Adorable cats and a very likable protagonist are the main features for this short manga. Normal manga have anywhere from 19 to 36 pages and some update weekly if not monthly. Nukoduke is a monthly updated manga series that is ongoing. The creator - Yugi Iro has chosen to create a manga with each chapter consisting less than 10 pages.

My first thoughts were that it would be uninteresting due to the length. Many 4 panel gag comics are often this short if not shorter but I gave it a try because honestly, cats and a lazy genius caught my attention.

The story was initially more light hearted with many adorable scenes of Yuuya (or lazy protagonist) bonding with the two stray cats he picked up from the streets. Slowly but surely more characters were introduced with equally interesting background.

In the latest update chapters 97 and 98, more of the side character's development were shown and I absolutely love how the created a mystery behind Yuuya's God-like cooking skills by introducing Granny Sen who imparted to Yuuya all her cooking skills. They never really did explain Yamato's sweet tooth and secret to never getting fat but that's how manga work.

The one big side story I feel coming up is the disappearing ghosts clinging onto Haruki (Yuuya's younger brother) and Sasame's maiden love for him. The fact that Haruki still thinks of Sasame as male just cracks me up. Yuuya's reaction to it makes me look forward to the next update.
